Mochen is one of those students whose had to live with the reality that the majority of her PhD study was during the COVID pandemic, never mind I, as her PhD supervisor, moved to Manchester in the first year of her PhD. Sadly, funded by CSC, she couldn’t move with me to University of Manchester, so almost all my supervision was done on Zoom on weekly basis over the years. But she has been very independent and navigated through her entire PhD with mostly peer support in the lab. By the time she finished her PhD, she has published 2 ACS papers as first author. Well done, Mochen!
Of course, this also means, all three PhD students I supervised, Patrick, Davide and Mochen, at Cardiff University have successfully graduated, and I can now fully focus all my energy on building my group in MIB from now on. Byebye, Cardiff University! Thanks for offering me the oppotunity to become a PI.
